When the muscle valve between your stomach and esophagus loosens or doesn’t completely close, stomach acid might leak into your esophagus, causing heartburn. You may be familiar with heartburn symptoms, such as a burning sensation right below your breastbone that might climb into your chest. A bitter or sour sensation may also be present in your mouth. Although the phrases heartburn and acid reflux are frequently interchanged, heartburn is a symptom of acid reflux.

Heartburn-causing foods should be avoided.
While the foods that induce heartburn differ from person to person, there are a few foods that are known to cause heartburn, such as:
Chili peppers are spicy meals.
fatty foods: coffee, citrus fruits, tomatoes, chocolate, peppermint. acidic foods: coffee, citrus fruits, tomatoes, chocolate, peppermint.
caffeine.
alcoholic beverages with carbonation
alcoholic beverages such as wine and other alcoholic beverages
Pay attention to the foods that give you heartburn and cut them out of your diet.
Probiotics should be increased.
Heartburn sensations could be caused by an imbalance of helpful bacteria in your gut. It’s typical to believe that acid reflux is caused by too much stomach acid when, in fact, it could be due to a lack of stomach acid. Learn how to improve your gut health by incorporating gut-friendly prebiotics and probiotic foods into your diet, which can help you maintain adequate stomach acid for appropriate digestion.
Please don’t smoke.
Nicotine from cigarettes and e-cigarettes can irritate your esophagus and weaken the valve between your esophagus and stomach, causing stomach acid to back up into your esophagus.
Maintain a healthy body mass index (BMI).
Excess weight might put too much strain on your stomach, causing the valve to relax and stomach acid to leak out.
Use portion control to your advantage.
When you eat too much, your stomach has to extend, which weakens the valve that connects your stomach to your esophagus. To avoid expanding your stomach, eat smaller, more frequent meals.
Avoid eating late at night.
Heartburn can be caused by lying down or going to bed on an empty stomach. Allow at least three hours after eating to allow your stomach to empty itself before going to bed. You can also raise one end of your bed so that your chest and head are higher than your waist. This reduces the amount of stomach acid that reaches your throat.
Heartburn remedies are available.
Heartburn can be relieved with a variety of therapies, including natural remedies that you can try at home and over-the-counter drugs that provide immediate relief.
Baking soda is a natural treatment.
Sodium bicarbonate, sometimes known as baking soda, may provide relief from occasional heartburn. To help neutralize the acid, use 1 half teaspoon with four ounces of water. If you’re on a salt-restricted diet, you shouldn’t use this because it includes sodium. Before using baking soda to reduce heartburn, see your doctor if you are on any prescription medications, are pregnant, or have a chronic health condition.
Medications that can be purchased over-the-counter.
Heartburn relief using calcium-based antacids is appropriate for infrequent patients.
