Heartburn is caused by stomach acid travelling back up your oesophagus, also known as acid reflux, which can be caused by obesity, certain foods, medications, smoking, and a malfunctioning lower oesophageal sphincter.
Number 1: Milk. It’s a common belief that drinking milk can help with heartburn. Keep in mind, however, that the fat content of different milks varies. Acid reflux can be aggravated by the fat in milk. Non-fat milk, on the other hand, can function as a temporary buffer between the stomach lining and acidic stomach contents, providing fast relief from heartburn symptoms.
Number 2: Ginger. Due to its therapeutic characteristics, ginger is one of the best digestive aides. It’s alkaline and anti-inflammatory, which helps to soothe gastric inflammation. It’s also full of antioxidants. If you’re experiencing heartburn, try drinking ginger tea once or twice a day.
Number 3: Apple cider vinegar. It is thought that this home remedy helps balance your stomach pH by balancing stomach acid, and many people swear by it when it comes to relieving heartburn symptoms. However, because it’s a strong acid that might irritate the oesophagus, you should never consume it at full strength. Dilute it by putting a tiny quantity in warm water and drink it with your meals instead.
Number 4: Lemon juice with honey. Although lemon juice is highly acidic, a tiny amount mixed with warm water and honey has an alkalizing effect that helps to neutralise stomach acid. Honey also contains natural antioxidants that protect cell health.
Number 5: Chewing gum. I know it may sound strange, but chewing gum encourages the production of saliva, which is an acid buffer. It also causes you to swallow more frequently, which forces the acids back down into your oesophagus.
